between a 17 hour bus ride or an hour tandem bike ride

the first comes without devin and the second comeswith the lovely boy.

i pick the latter. hands down. but they both were...uh how do i say this... insightful?
let me repeat in layman's terms the latter was twelve million times better and i'm glad to go through the first to appreciate the second so much more. glad to be home folks.

1. staying in the homes of incredibly unique and diverse members across the states
2. getting to look into a beehive with the head mask on and everything, and even better getting some homemade honey- gosh people are nice.
3. minneapolis--- everything about it: i found a new love with that city
4. butterflies on the ferris wheel at navy pier in chicago
5. watching the elementary kids giggle and squeal as we teach and perform for them, priceless
6. makin up silly dances in the back of a greyhound bus
7. changing time zones five times in two days;)
8. water aerobics and synchronized swimming in the pool
9. finding two new plates for nebraska and minnesota for my collection
10. getting to write a lot in my journal about devin
11. being frugal: not buying things is becoming more satisfactory than buying them
12. seeing wrigley field and the notre dame campus: that's for you bryon
13. the feeling of sending your love a postcard
14. winter quarters. squishing people in bunkbeds. pulling handcarts. temple. period.
the miraculous feeling of, "this is where i'm meant to be" and meeting people you know you are ' supposed' to meet
15. taking class at the joffrey ballet
16. phone calls with devin
17. best inspirations for home decor in des moines, random, minniapolis and old houses.
18. learning so much- what a blessed experience
so i went a little over 10- woopsies

with all those positives there is one drawback: i miss devin just a little bit;)
if we go by the best outta three rule, we've just won today because two weeks are gone and only one left!

people always say...

people always say that birthdays get less birthday-y as you get older
today, thanks to all of you, was one of the most meaningful birthdays i've had. full of love, and focused on things that matter and last- it was the perfect birthday wish. i guess i dont agree with those people.
people always say that absence makes the heart grow fonder
for the next 21 days i'll be on a bus(thankfully) driving for BYU's tour to eight of the north central states. i left a anthro magazine covered in love notes written on each page for devin. i already cried twice today thinking about it. i guess those people are right.
people (jason mraz) always say (sings) that, "look into your heart and you'll find the sky is yours."
recently we downloaded an acoustic version of this song, and whether it's my bad hearing, or me changing the lyrics, i thought it said, "look into your heart and you'll find- it's not yours." i guess those people's lyrics are right. however, i continue singing them in my pretended ignorance. i was mezmorized by the truthfulness of these made-up lyrics. in fact, i can't stop thinking of it. my heart is not mine. it's given to those that i love. i know i've found more joy by fully giving my heart to those that i love than by holding it back and saving love for a rainy day. i've been reminded this weekend how my heart is in the hands of so many people, how many people i feel inexpressably indebted to and thankful for, and yet it is in the safest of hands. our hearts are not ours, but given, vulnerably and wholly, to those that we love

devin is graduated from BYU. hip hip hooray.


after finishing our last final on tuesday we went home and as we were leaving noticed we had matching white t-shirts on... wierd. it feels good to have summer here.We celebrated our first our little family's first graduate by going to the new Five Guys by university mall. great atmosphere- but i think burger supreme has got them



The celebration continued with a long challenging game of pick up sticks with some home decor brought to us by IKEA. Some of the best 3 dollars i've ever spent.

Devin won 79-70Devin had Commencement. I think I cried at least 6 times, education is so empowering and beautiful.

We're off to convocation, some bbq, and packing up for the summer. I leave for tour with BYU on MONDAY- ah

Europe awaits

This summer we are going to europe to visit devin's mission. We'll be spending most time here in stockholm, sweden.


Devin's friends from the mission are letting us stay in their cute little "stuga" or cottage in the countryside of sweden.our venture begins in amsterdam. stay just one day there

Devin's mission presidents live in london and we'll be spending two nights there.
there we plan to take dev to his first broadway showfrom there it is off to france for 3-4 days. i'm maybe most excited for this
due to my eye accident last time i was in europe, i wasn't able to go to any of these places like i had planned. i saw a video of my friends doing a 300 foot bungey jump in between two canyons in interlocken, switzerland. i've wanted to go back ever since. we'll definitely be making a stop there. I aslo kinda wanna go sky diving.


after interlocken, its a night train over to italy. this is where we are torn. we only have 3-4 days in italy. i wanna see rome,venice,
and cinque terra, but i dont think we can fit them all in. any suggestions from you well-traveled on which two are most worth seeing?

after italy we fly to sweden, spend our week there. we'll spend a day in denmark on our way to
berlin- where our returning flight departs.
we couldnt be more excited but need all the advice we can get....?!!! let's hear from you: favorite stops, sights, shops, etc... thanks!

it is not unusual...

...for devin to find something he likes and not stop thinking about, and pursuing it for days on end.

prime example: me.
another less important, materialistic, more recent, prime example:

we saw this car this past weekend and in those four days since devin has :

1.made sure utah laws allow for right-side steering wheels.
check. (if you look closely you can tell this one has one, probably the main reason he is in love)
2.looked up all the functioning '73 mini's everywhere from san fran to london(the hub of right handed cars, refer to number one)-
check. although they are rare, this didn't stop him
3.discovered shipping rates from overseas.
check +.
4.learned about gas mileage.
check plus again.
5.learned about crash ratings.
no check. i told him state street is the fastest we'd take this baby.
6.tried to convince me that i can learn to drive stick.
no check. (i'm sure i wouldn't mind a few good hours in church parking lot, laughing with my best friend, but i had to put up a fight.)

alas, he has found his dream car: a '73 mini, with the checkers on top- or maybe i just added that part.
secretly i kind of love it too-

no we will not be buying a car like this anytime soon.

had a ball

saturday devin and i went to the traditions ball at the hinckley center. admittedly i was too stressed to be excited to go. but all it took was devin pretending to pick me up at the door, some hearty salsa dancing to snazzy jazzy tunes, uplifting and hilarious company and i was hooked. looking forward to someday becoming one of those old couples in the background on the dance floor who still got it.

SOOO next week the club that Devin and I are a part of at BYU is putting on a TOM'S Shoes event. Real TOM'S representatives will be showing videos and experiences about 'shoe drops' (the incredible part of the story where shoes are actually delivered to kids who need them) and much more. It will be an perfect FHE. 5:45 -7:00 in the JFSB auditorium. Our goal is to fill the whole auditorium so please come and bring your friends family and fhe groups! See you there.

CAN i CouNT?

so yesterday at family home evening with the barkers and the swanks devin was asked the glorious question, "how long have you guys been married?" out came the words, "15 months." in my head i was thinking ..... oops i'll have to remind him.... so i said, "no dear, just 13 months. one year plus three months"......................... ....................... silence........................ ........................then i felt really silly. my apologies for the incorrect post.
